In the pursuit of the Department’s vision, we also have a Mission which is to “Manage, and enable NGOs to discharge their responsibilities effectively as set out in their constitutions for social and economic development in the country”.

In order to fulfill this role we have two main tools which are the National Policy for NGOs (2001) and the NGOs Act no. 24/2002. All these resources have identified and established two major national bodies, the National NGOs Coordination Board and the National Council for Non-Governmental Organizations. However, the process of their selection is not complete but is progressing well. In addition, appropriate training on their role as assistant registrars was already provided. Latest NGO Jobs in Tanzania | UN Jobs in Tanzania 2021

After the adoption of the NGO Act no. 24 of 2002, the Department gained full authority and capacity to register, supervise, coordinate and monitor the performance of NGOs at various levels.

The registration role which is legally the responsibility of the National Coordinating Board for NGOs was officially delegated to the Registrar of NGOs who is the Secretary of the National Coordinating Board of NGOs and the Director of the Department. Basically the implementation of this Act in the sense of registering NGOs under this Act officially began in January, 2005.

3.0 WORKING AND FINANCIAL INFORMATION REPORTING OF NGOs

4.0 PROBLEMS / CHALLENGES FACING THE NGO Sector
The NGO sector in the country is growing very fast, as there has been a great awakening in the community to establish NGOs to be able to combat the various problems facing the Tanzanian community. The major challenges facing the NGO sector are as follows: –

4.1 GREAT RESOURCES NEEDS
This growth is accompanied by an increase in the demand for resources in order to carry out the activities intended by these organizations. Latest NG0 Jobs in Tanzania | UN Jobs in Tanzania 2021

This increase in resource demand has been a major obstacle for the NGO sector to carry out its functions effectively, as many local NGOs do not have the capacity to access such resources to carry out their responsibilities. Latest NGO Jobs in Tanzania | UN Jobs in Tanzania 2021

This is largely due to the attitude of donors rather than devising alternative methods of obtaining capital to run their operations in the country. This has led to an influx of NGOs addressing a single agenda or focusing on a single sector that receives donor funding, such as AIDS, Environment, human rights, e.t.c.
