Multichoice diski challenge table 2022
The MultiChoice Diski Challenge is a youth development programme that includes a football tournament for the Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs; life skills and leadership development for players; an internship programme to develop broadcasting skills among the youth; scholarships for players and production interns; as well as a chance for community television channels on DStv to broadcast the MultiChoice Diski Challenge matches.
Playing the MultiChoice Diski Challenge The Competition
The programme kicked off in September 2014 with 16 teams in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge, each representing one of the general Premier Soccer League (PSL) teams.
Teams are placed in groups of two and play against each other in group stages, quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals. The rules and regulations of this league are determined by the PSL.
A total of 66 matches will be played, with the competition wrapping up in March 2015.
Football Player Development
The league provides a platform for players to showcase their talent and help fast track their transition into professional football. It’s for this reason the league focuses on football player development through player tracking, profiling and media training.
There’s also a need for players to get support, especially when they’re on the rise to stardom and facing numerous life challenges – balancing life off the pitch with that on the pitch.
Aside from the games, players will interact with football legends and receive training in life and leadership skills for the duration of the programme.
Each team will get the chance to nominate three players to attend a seven-day leadership development programme at the end of the competition in March 2015.
Thirty players with an interest in broadcast careers will also get the opportunity to attend a one-week career conference at the MultiChoice campus in Randburg.
The conference will offer in-depth exposure to the broadcast environment and will include panel discussions with our executives, engineers, producers and technicians.
Prizes for the League Champions
The MultiChoice Diski Challenge rotating trophy is up for grabs!
The winning team will also get gold medals and a trip to Holland for a four-day training camp at the Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB). They will also play friendly games against Bundesliga (German Football Federal League) opponents and the Germany national team.
The first and second runners-up will receive bronze and silver medals respectively.
Producing the MultiChoice Diski Challenge Behind the scenes
So who will bring all the excitement and action to our screens?
The MultiChoice Diski Challenge gives aspiring producers and broadcasters the opportunity to get hands-on experience as part of the SuperSport internship for the league.
Interns are coached and mentored by experienced producers and engineers. This part of the programme also aims to attract female interns over a period of time.
A total of 43 interns form part of the production team across the MultiChoice businesses and will generate content for television broadcast on a rotational basis. They’ll work as production assistants, assistant producers, directors, EVS
These youngsters will also be required to set up and produce a weekly magazine show that will follow the competition for the year..
MultiChoice is also offering five fully paid academic scholarships to qualifying players and interns as a further means for professional development and career advancement. Applications for internships are closed for 2014, but check back soon on the SuperSport careers page for the 2015 applications.
Broadcasting the MultiChoice Diski Challenge Watching the games
SuperSport is the primary carrier of games on the DStv platform. Of the 66 games scheduled, at least 30 will be televised. Some will take the form of live shows, while others will be broadcast on a delayed basis, depending on channel scheduling.
In an effort to give exposure to the young players, and allowing their communities to follow their journeys, experience and triumphs, MultiChoice is giving community TV channels on its DStv platform the opportunity to broadcast the games live.
