Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Livestock
and Fisheries (MLF) in Tanzania is executing a collaborative research project on
Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions in Commercial Poultry. job vacancies in tanzania
The project is funded by the International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions (ICARS) based in Denmark. Strategically, the project is divided in two thematic areas “Vaccination and Biosecurity Regimes to Enhance Fight Against Antimicrobial Resistance” and “Mitigating Spread of Antimicrobials and Resistant Microbial Pathogens and Genes Through Treatment of Manure”.
Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified Tanzanians to immediately fill the
following vacant positions at Sokoine University of Agriculture. POSITION: RESEARCH ASSISTANT

- Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine
- Master Degree relevant to Veterinary Medicine including Master of Veterinary Medicine (MVM); Master of Preventive Veterinary Medicine (MPVM); Master of Science in Pharmacology; Master of Science in Applied Toxicology; Master of Science in Epidemiology; Master of Science in Applied Microbiology; Master of Science in
Molecular Biology and Biotechnology; or Master of Sciences in One Health Molecular Biology - Knowledge and Skills on Practical Research Design, Management and Presentation
- Knowledge and Skills on Concepts and Practices of One Health
- Knowledge and skills on statistics and statistical packages relevant for biological research
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong critical thinking and analytical abilities
- Strong sense of responsibility and organizational skills
Work experience
- Antimicrobial Resistance and One Health
- Project Planning and management

Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate and facilitate implementation of projects with guidance from the project coordinator
- Facilitate and get involved in data collection, analysis and publications
- Conduct research projects independently with guidance from the project coordinator
- Write the project reports
- Manage relevant documentations for ICARS projects
- Prepare and Monitor time-schedules for various project activities.
- Organize project events (including meetings) in consultation with Project coordinator.
- Prepare Meeting agenda and protocols in close collaboration with the project coordinator
- Monitoring of Project level time schedules (including reporting deadlines) and provision of timely reminders
- Assisting in the monitoring the project performance to maximize efficiency and effectiveness
- Performing any other related duties as may be assigned by the project coordinator.

POSITION: Laboratory Scientist II
Qualifications
Holder of BSc Laboratory Sciences and Biotechnology; BSc in Chemistry (Analytical Chemistry); BSc Environmental Science and Management; or any other relevant degree with analytical chemistry component from a recognized institution.
Experience
Using Chromatographic separation Techniques including High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) or/and Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry
Techniques (LC-MS/MS) will be an added advantage for applicants
Duties and responsibilities
- Undertake independently, the specified routine technical tasks that require a higher degree of technical knowledge and skills.
- Implement specified maintenance plans for laboratory facilities.
- Prepare chemicals, solvents, reagents and standards for relevant tests and experiments.
- Operate the High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) or/and Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry Techniques (LC-MS/MS) for ICARS projects
- Provides hands-on assistance to researchers and students working in the laboratory on experiments using HPLC and LC-MS/MS techniques.
- Performs instrument and equipment calibration, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repair.
- Keeps records and logs of all work done and data generated in the laboratory.
- Assists in taking the inventory of necessary supplies and reagents.
- Performs any other duties as assigned by the project Coordinator
Terms: Contract for two years renewable subject to impressive performance and conduct.
