KRA is seeking a resultoriented, self-driven individual of high integrity to fill the position of Deputy Commissioner – Policy & International Affairs.
The Kenya Revenue Authority was established by an Act of Parliament, Chapter 469 of the laws of Kenya, which became effective on 1st July 1995. KRA is charged with collecting revenue on behalf of the government of Kenya.

Our Governance
Board of Directors, consisting of both public and private sector experts, makes policy decisions to be implemented by KRA Management.
The Chairman of the Board is appointed by the President of the Republic of Kenya. The Chief Executive of the Authority is the Commissioner General who is appointed by the Minister for Finance.
The core functions of the Authority are: –
- To assess, collect and account for all revenues in accordance with the written laws and the specified provisions of the written laws.
- To advise on matters relating to the administration of, and collection of revenue under the written laws or the specified provisions of the written laws.
- To perform such other functions in relation to revenue as the Minster may direct
Purpose of the job:
The Deputy Commissioner – Policy & International Affairs is responsible for Providing strategic leadership as well as formulating and implementing policies / strategies in the Policy Division in accordance the relevant legislative laws, regulations and operating within Customs.
Key Responsibilities – Deputy Commissioner at Kenya Revenue Authority
- Overseeing legislative changes and interpretation thereof.
- Participation at the national and regional budget making process.
- Provision of technical and law interpretative guidance and support to the dept. and operations.
- Overseeing Implementation of policy changes.
- Maintain Departmental liaison with National Treasury.
- Reviewing and aligning operational procedures to any legislative/administrative changes
- Coordination of Quality Management System (QMS) audits, External and internal Audit function.
- Coordination of licensing of Clearing Agents and facilities such as Bonded warehouses.
- Coordination of dispute resolution mechanism.
- Overseeing EAC and International Networks including Coordination of the Single Custom Territory affairs.
- Development, execution and Monitoring of MOUs and MAAs with the regional and international partners.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in the relevant field from a recognized institution.
- Professional Customs Training.
- At least ten (10) years of relevant work experience with at least five
- (5) years in a Senior Managerial role.
In addition, candidates should demonstrate the following personal traits and competencies:
- Strategic agility.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills.
- Customs Business Understanding.
- Customs Legislation and Regulation.
- Knowledge in Customs procedures.
- Strong decision-making skills.
- Excellent negotiation and conflict management skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication.
